Co-ordinator - CMPT (Formerly know as PSTI - The Petroleum Science and Technology Institute) is funding and co-ordinating this project which is being conducted mainly in Bristol and Aberdeen Universities.

Summary - Managing reservoir uncertainty is the focus of a major PSTI initiative - Programme Juniper. The heart of the Juniper Programme is addressing uncertainty as it impinges upon the way reservoir management decisions are made, and how appropriate actions are identified, planned and executed. As part of this Programme, substantial subscription-funded research is being conducted in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Bristol, and in the Department of Geology and Petroleum Geology at the University of Aberdeen.

In summary, the work at Bristol and Aberdeen will:

• aim to develop a generic model of risky decision making;
• concentrate on the sub-surface but 'hook' into facilities, economics and management issues as they impact on the sub-surface;
• focus on project sanction as the key decision point;
• assess recoverable reserves and production profile with sparse data.
