Project description
Faults occur on a broad range of scales with displacements varying over several orders of magnitude and geometries extending from those of fault systems down to fault zones and fault rock. Using exceptionally high quality data from the Ptolemais mines in Greece, this project will investigate the structure of fault systems from km- down to mm-scale. A variety of generic aspects of faults will be explored such as the scaling of faults and fault zones, fault segmentation and associated displacement transfer, the impact of mechanical stratigraphy on fault zone structure, and the 3D geometry of landslides.
